Movember is a wrap! For the past 30 days, we’ve been on a mission to let the men in our community know they are not alone, and that asking for help is a sign of strength. We see an undeniable and terrifying reality: men are struggling in silence, and the consequences can be devastating. Due to societal stigmas, many men are reluctant to speak up and seek help. Together we can change that, and it starts with breaking down the stigmas and opening up the dialogue.
Thanks to many of you, November was filled with reminders for the men in our lives. Our 30 for 30 push-up challenge was embraced by so many including @darien_police @norotonheightsfire @noroton_fire @darienfirect @darienpost53 @sascoriver and many individuals, teams, teachers and school administrators. A special thank you to @sini_06820 and Dr. Eric Byrne who took the challenge to a whole new level! For 30 days, they tallied the splat points they earned @otfdarien to initiate a $312 donation (x2!) in support of these efforts.
Last but certainly not least, we hosted a first-of-its-kind men’s wellness fireside chat for 130 men on November 20th. The conversation was open, honest, and very raw, and the turnout tells us just how important creating space for these types of discussions really is. Thank you to Darien resident and mental health champion @ttamberrino, former NFL player, Leonard Wheeler, DHS grad and co-founder of The Current, Ryan Damon, and Dr. Chris Bogart from Sasco River Center for your vulnerability and bravery in sharing your experiences, stories and advice.
Thank you to DAF media for filming the event (we’ll be sharing the link shortly) and @hersh.shots for the fantastic pics! And a special shout out to Andrea Callagy and Evan Dunne for making the evening so incredible!
